Greaves 1560-80

One original with internal patches. The other a well made mate. Covering two thirds of the leg. Central crease over the shin and shaped to the calf and ankle. Cut out over the foot with a narrow outward turn on the front edge over the foot. Two straps and buckles each to secure them to the legs. Both tested with XRF - both appear to be old metal. This style of greave is usually associated with use for the joust and are commonly found on German, esp. Augsburg harnesses. They are unusually large, this is something that is found on many pieces that came from the store of Brunwick and North German pieces that were formerly stored at Schoss Marienburg. For a similarly constructed pair of partial greaves see item number A-125.
